About Us

Hello! I'm Bethany (she/her). Welcome to my little corner of the fabric world, in the rainy Pacific Northwest of the US!

I'm the owner and primary person behind everything you see here, from the web design to the sales to many of the prints themselves. To say I'm passionate about fabric and sewing would be an understatement! I grew up watching my mom and grandmother sew, and I learned the basics myself as a kid. However, I didn't sew up my first garment until I was an adult.

How it Started

During lockdown in 2020, I had just committed to getting sober, and I needed something positive to do in place of more destructive habits. So I dusted off my old sewing machine. And you know what? It stuck this time!

I started creating, and the joy of it swept me away. Watching the things I make come together right in front of me, in real time...there's something truly special about it. I had taken many other turns in my life, career-wise (art, restaurants, nonprofits, and most recently policy analysis!) but nothing ever felt quite right. I always ended up falling back on my art and my hobbies, so after having my son, I decided to try once again to make a career out of the things I love most.

Which brings us here!

How it's Going

Fluid + Drape is one of the many things I'm proud of in my life. In addition to being a wife and mom, successfully saying goodbye to alcohol, and sitting on the board for my local sewing non-profit, I now get to run this thriving business! And it feels good to be in the driver's seat. With Fluid + Drape, I get to prioritize what means the most to me as a sewist. All my fabrics are vivid, high-quality, and sustainably made of natural fibers, because I believe all sewists deserve access to the best. Everything I create is with crafters and sewists like you in mind. And I do create them! Many of the prints in my shop are designed by me!
